As expected, Rafael Nadal won the Barcelona Open beating Guillermo Canas 6-3, 6-4.
The victory means that Nadal has now won 72 matches in a row on clay. What’s more, he equaled the record of Matt’s Wilander of winning Barcelona Open three times consecutively.
Coming into the match, Nadal was in full flow with his serve and dazzling array of strokes. Though, Canas fought hard, his game plan of waiting for Nadal’s mistakes didn’t click because Nadal really make mistakes on clay. First set was easily won by Nadal.
However, in the second set Canas played some brilliant strokes but at the crucial moment Nadal broke his serve and clinched victory. This tournament victory in Barcelona is the third trophy for Nadal in 2007, after wins at Indian Wells and Monte Carlo where he beat World number 1 Roger Federer.
